I wanted to design a product that would make it easy for anyone to transfer their recyclables (both general and green waste) from the waste stream to their local collection system.
My solution is a two-container system: one for general recyclables (paper, bottles, can, etc.) and one for "green" waste (food, compostables, coffee filters, etc.).
The "green" waste container is in the top half and can be accessed using the mechanical foot pedal or the direct lid handle. An air vent in the shape of the universal symbol for recycling allows air to vent through a replaceable carbon filter. The filter is held in place by three metal clips on the underside of the lid which accommodates both circular and square filters (currently available products).
The general recyclables container can be accessed conveniently through a generous opening in the front. This opening accommodates the common behavior of "tossing" cans or other recyclables.
Both containers have convenient handles for easy transport to curbside collection bins.
